Module 7
Effective Transitions
Transitions and Transfer: KS2 into KS3
In England, the teaching and learning of an ancient or modern language is a statutory part of the Curriculum from the age of 7. Since the introduction of this requirement in September 2014, successful communication of pupil achievement at the age of transfer has proved challenging. As the MFLPR2016 says: “Secondary schools should know about the modern languages taught at their feeder primary schools. Wherever possible, they should support language learning in primary schools and plan to build on pupils’ primary school language knowledge”.
This module will support secondary school teachers in ensuring that transfer and transition arrangements lead to continued motivation, engagement and progress in Year 7 and beyond.
“…have groups of secondary schools and primary schools working together, and having a coherently planned curriculum from Key Stage 2 to 3.”
Sir Ian Bauckham, 2023
