Universal CPD Webinar Series

The National Consortium for Languages Education (NCLE) comprised of IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, the Goethe Institut and the British Council is thrilled to continue its series of free, research-informed professional development webinars designed to support languages teachers in building their knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence in language teaching pedagogy. This series of Universal CPD sessions run in tandem with the NCLE Universal CPD online learning platform that is currently under development and will be available to you soon. NCLE Cultural Partners: Consejería de Educación & Institut-français

Consejería de Educación:
The Spanish Embassy Education Office (Consejería de Educación) coordinates all of the Spanish Ministry of Education initiatives in the UK and Ireland. We promote and strengthen bilateral relationships and offer guidance and information on matters related to the teaching and learning of Spanish.

In this webinar, Consejería de Educación will discuss free teacher training opportunities and Spanish dissemination activities, free resources and materials for the Spanish classroom, as well as provide access for teachers to the Ministry of Education’s online learning platforms Eleo (digital library with comics, graded readers, novels, etc.) and Veo (films, short movies, documentaries and other multimedia).

Institut-français:
The Institut-français is the French Agency of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in charge of promoting French culture overseas and international cultural exchanges.

In this webinar, Institut-français will highlight the available teaching resources which they provide alongside the latest offers they have created to support NCLE, language hubs and schools across the country. These include a French language upskilling course for Primary Teachers, a cultural enrichment workshop for Secondary Teachers, and a Roadshow bridging Virtual Reality, Sports and the Francophone short movies for KS3 students.

Multilingualism in the School Curriculum: Learning from Teachers’ Beliefs and Practices
Led by Dr Elin Arfon – Research Fellow (Language Subject Leadership), NCLE

Wednesday 19th June 2024, 4pm-5pm

In this webinar, we will look at how to embed multilingual practices into the languages curriculum. Firstly, we will look at what multilingualism means for language learning. Secondly, we will explore research that has looked at teachers’ beliefs on and practices of multilingualism in England, the UK and internationally. Thirdly, we will explore examples of multilingual activities and practices that stem from work with languages teachers in the UK and internationally. This will be in terms of using learners’ entire linguistic repertoires in the languages classroom and in terms of thinking about collaborative ways of working across the languages curricula at your schools.
