Module 9
Teaching for Success
Effective Approaches to Integrating the Four Skills
As the MFLPR2016 says: “Spoken and written language are closely connected and overlap. Therefore speaking, writing, listening and reading should be taught together, rather than as separate skills.”
This module will share examples of best practice in integrating skills and providing pupils with well-sequenced, engaging, motivating and inclusive tasks that provide stretch and challenge to support all in achieving their potential.
“it is really important that we teach… [phonics, vocabulary and grammar] together across all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.”
Sir Ian Bauckham, 2023
